The “Purple Wheelchair” recording project was born in a 100 year old schoolhouse near Ojai, California, in 2001. The proverbial “man behind the curtain”, known as “DEPT.”, started Purple Wheelchair with the philosophy of producing musical compositions in a “factory-esque” fashion, carefully building and turning out a steady stream of New Wave Psychedelic Pop, Ambient Dub Rock, and Other-Worldly Experimental aural landscapes. Until a machine or android is manufactured that can replace them, Purple Wheelchair will keep on rolling out their extraordinary brand of musical stylings. With the help of a few close friends and family, Dept. and his “Purple Wheel Square Players” have only one mission in mind; to create a channel
and a source of sounds embodying the freedom and joyfulness of the music of our collective youth. That source being the “other worlds of our inner-minds.”
